CulturalDC’s Anti-Gala is an annual, fun-filled evening of celebration, cocktails, dinner, performances, and the announcement of the 23/24 Capital Artist Resident.
Launched in 2021, the Capital Artist Residency sponsors, promotes, and houses one visual or multidisciplinary artist for 1-3 months each year in Washington, DC, offering a space tailored for the artist to develop and amplify their unique perspective from a national platform. The residency culminates with a show or performance in our signature Mobile Art Gallery and Source Theatre.
The Capital Artist Residency is an annual initiative dedicated to supporting artists of color whose work contributes to a regional and national artistic dialogue.
This program sponsors, promotes, and houses at least one visual or multidisciplinary BIPOC artist each year in Washington, D.C. – offering a creative space tailored for the artist to develop and amplify their unique perspective from a national platform.

We welcomed Allana Clarke as our third Capital Artist Resident at Hill Prince in the H Street Corridor.
As our second year of Anti-Gala, we were thrilled to host our last Capital Artist Resident, Nyugen E. Smith, among performances by Stephanie Mercedes and the performers from our most recent program, Never in Our Image. We were serenaded by improvised operatic vocals by Fairouz Foty, mesmerizing movements by dancer and artist Antonius-Tin Bui, and percussive gun destruction by Houry Kandoyan.
CulturalDC program artists such as Sandy Williams IV, Amber Robles-Gordon, and February James joined us to help welcome the 2023/2024 season.
The Anti-Gala celebrates and supports the Capital Artist Residency. The residency culminates with a show or performance in our signature Mobile Art Gallery or Source Theatre.

We welcomed Nyugen E. Smith as our second Capital Artist Resident at Hill Prince in the H Street Corridor.
As our inaugural year of Anti-Gala, we were thrilled to host our first Capital Artist Resident, Umar Rashid, among performances by Holly Bass and Maps Glover. CulturalDC program artists such as Anthony Akinbola, Amber Robles-Gordon, Ben Levine, and Stephanie Mercedes joined us for an evening of cocktails, food, and connection.
