The Southwest meets Washington , DC with an explosion of colors. Inspired by the larger than life landscapes and bright colors of the southwest and Mexican culture, Dorri Thyden’s artwork brings together a vibrant spectrum of color into every painting. Believing that “art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life,” her paintings are never dark or moody and whether landscapes, still life or abstract, her work is representational with a creative perspective and meant to inspire positive results.

In “Capitol Colors”, which will be exhibited in Annex A, Dorri displays her signature colors through a variety of iconic images of Washington , D.C. Images include colorful representations of Washington ’s most recognizable monuments, as well as creative depictions of political icons. Annex B will showcase paintings with a Latin flare that illustrate some of the rich vibrant cultures of the southwest.

TEATRO DE LA LUNA takes great delight in presenting three master interpreters of the Latin American harp.

EDUARDO BATANCOURT was born in Caracas, Venezuela. He began his harp study at the Bigott Foundation and continued at the José Ángel Lamas National Conservatory and the José Reina Music School. He has traveled extensively, in and out of Venezuela, where he has performed in a number of festivals and has played alongside several renowned artists in live concerts and recordings.

EDMAR CASTAÑEDA, harpist, band leader and composer, was born in Bogotá, Colombia where he started playing the Colombian harp at age thirteen. His unique style, combining Latin jazz with traditional Colombian music, has earned him a firm place in the international jazz scene. By transforming the harp into a lead instrument, producing cross-rhythms like a drummer, smashing chordal flourishes like a flamenco guitarist and collating bebop and Colombian music, he is practically a world unto himself.

MARIANO GONZÁLEZ. Born and raised as a cowboy in Buena Vista, Paraguay, Mr. González grew up in a family of harpists. At 5, he began playing under the tutelage of his father and grandfather. A world class performer, he is an extraordinary harpist, composer, and harp maker. He has mesmerized audiences around the world with solo performances in many prestigious concert halls.
